About David

I am an ‘ex’ Lawyer, sports and family man, based in Cheshire. I have been writing seriously for 9 years, the first 5 on adult fiction, originally gathering ideas since school days from where I grew up in a country village.

Now having grandchildren has persuaded me to move genre. I have a wealth of literary experience and a vivid imagination, which, coupled with-sadly long gone-past real life scenes I have called on to great effect to produce books and story poems to rival other esteemed, more established children’s authors. Having also spent time assisting with former Sunday school groups-Pilots in particular-and speaking to primary school kids in general, I feel well equipped to express the experiences in my educational, fun and story books. My daughter Kate writes and teaches too. I also have a good rapport with several Head teachers throughout mid and South Cheshire and community champion schemes.

My first ever book ‘Winding the Clock Back’, the 60’s relived Village Style, was self-published in June 2014 to great acclaim. It was a factual take on that iconic decade and took over 4 years to complete. It was a tremendous success not just locally, but across the whole of the UK. The wonderful Bill Tidy was kind enough to do the illustrations.

I was also honoured to be chosen as one of the guest speakers at the 2015 Northwich Lit-fest which was well received. Yet to ‘hit’ the adult fiction book market, is an unfinished murder mystery tale which features an old style, ‘Grantchester type’ country vicar who… also likes children!

I am a member of the Vale Royal Writer’s Group, Northwich and Daresbury authors and have spoken frequently about my work to local libraries, schools, social groups and various literary societies. I have done book presentations in my village through the Co-operative Group who are very supportive of charity work including St. Lukes Hospice in particular. I also have an excellent relationship with our newspaper group, the mid Cheshire Guardian series, Cheshire Libraries, Our Town Magazine and the Artisan market Co along with Nantwich Retail markets, who are all keen on promoting local talent, authors and writers especially. Author influences are numerous but my absolute favourites are Lewis Carroll, Roald Dahl, Edith Nesbit, C.S.Lewis, Kenneth Grahame and A.A.Milne.

I am now a regular journalist-contributor for Northwich’s ‘Our Town magazine’. Free monthly edition covers many aspects of Town life – a must read!

My debut children’s fantasy book is a ‘Book within a book’ and came out late November 2017 through Silverwood Books. It is aimed at kids between the ages of 6-9 years and brilliantly illustrated. Exciting, mysterious, magical, sad and funny it is also educational and full of love. This wonderful dual story adventure, links historical myth and legend with the present day and human life with animal life. It has taken almost two years to complete and is one of the best children’s story books to embrace the market for years. Great family read too.

Aimed at 3-5 year olds and close on the tail of my debut fantasy children’s book is the scary, ‘Magical Soap’ short story poem about an enchanting, spooky, olde Market hall wizard. A mad, zany and sinister fun packed sorcerer’s spoof that tells kids what will happen to them if – they don’t wash! Published summer 2018.
